Pulau Redang Marine Park/Terengganu Click to Enlarge LocationThe Pulau Redang Marine Park encompasses several natural groups of islands off the coast of Kuala Terengganu, about 45 km (28 miles) off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The park comprises the waters off nine islands which include the: Redang group (Pulau Redang, and several other smaller islands); Perhentian group (Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil); Pulau Lang Tengah, mid way between the former two groups of islands, and; Pulau Kapas, about 64 km (40 miles) to the south of Redang and closer to the shores off Marang. When to goMarch to September, avoiding the monsoons which usually come between October and February. AccessBy boat from either Kuala Terengganu or Kampung Merang to Pulau Redang or Pulau Perhentian. The usual jetty to take for Pulau Perhentian is from Kampung Kuala Besut. From Marang (further down the coast, south of Kuala Terengganu) to Pulau Kapas. PermitsNot required. Travel arrangements can be made through travel agents or accommodation owners on the mainland or at the jetty at Kuala Terengganu. EquipmentPrepare for the sun, lazing on the beach, sea and hours of snorkeling and diving. FacilitiesTwo large resorts on Pulau Redang including various budget accommodations. Smaller scale resorts and budget accommodation at Pasir Panjang, Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Kapas. Beach chalets and camping facilities at Telok Kalong and Pulau Pinang. On Redang, a Marine Park Centre (information, exhibits, & camping sites). NatureReef sharks and sightings of sea turtles are common off these islands. Visitor ActivitiesDiving and snorkeling.
